Obtaining an IIN for Foreign Nationals

An IIN (individual identification number) is required for foreigners for many procedures in Kazakhstan — from employment to opening a bank account. Processing takes 1 to 3 business days.

Who it's for

Non-resident foreign nationals need an IIN for employment, opening a bank account, registering a business, and other procedures requiring identification in Kazakhstan's government systems.

Processing is handled by the Migration Service through branches of the NAO "State Corporation Government for Citizens" (CON) at your place of stay — the service is paid.

How it works

We help prepare your documents and file the application at the CON, and explain which filing method is currently available.

  • An identity document — usually the foreign national's passport
  • Documents confirming the purpose of your stay in Kazakhstan

Worth knowing in advance

  • It used to be possible to register an IIN online through egov.kz without visiting the CON — this option is currently unavailable
  • Online registration was cancelled after cases of unauthorized persons registering IINs for non-existent citizens for later fraudulent use
  • Getting an IIN as a non-resident is a paid service; the application is filed in person at a CON branch
  • IIN assignment is handled by the Migration Service, not by a bank or employer

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I get an IIN online without visiting a CON?+
No, this used to be possible through egov.kz, but it's currently unavailable — you'll need to apply in person at a CON.
Why was online IIN registration cancelled?+
There were cases of unauthorized persons registering IINs for non-existent citizens and then using them for fraud — this created risks for both individuals and the state.
How long does processing take?+
The standard timeframe is 1 to 3 business days after the documents are filed.
Is the service paid or free?+
Getting an IIN as a non-resident is a paid service at CON branches.
What document do I need to apply?+
In most cases, the foreign national's passport is enough — we confirm the exact list during the consultation, depending on why you need the IIN.
